| About
Combat Academy |
Combat
Academy Pte Ltd was established in 2006 with the purpose of introducing
and promoting the different styles of Martial Arts.
We
aim to organize regular calendar of events ranging from tournaments
to public demonstrations. In so doing, we will be working hand-in-hand
with the respective associations and clubs to offer martial arts
practitioners and enthusiasts, opportunities to showcase their skills.
These
tournaments will cater to both local and international participation.
In the case of local (Singaporeans) martial arts gyms & participants,
this is an opportunity for them to showcase their skills in their
different disciplines of the arts & to be selected to represent
the country in regional & even international tournaments in
the near future.
Complimentary
to this calendar of events, we will also be developing programmes
skewed towards facilitating & educating the ge
neral public,
corporate companies & schools in the different styles of martial
arts and benefits they possess. As part of our 2006 programme, we
will be offering Amateur Boxing & Krav Maga (Israeli fighting
& self defense system) as our core programs. |
| |
Boxing
(Amateur and Professional) – Core Programme
Boxing is a sport where two participants of similar weight
attack each other with their fists in a series of one to
three-minute intervals. In both Olympic and professional
divisions, the combatants avoid their opponent's punches
whilst trying to land punches of their own. Points are awarded
for clean, solid blows to the legal area on the front of
the opponent's body above the waistline, with hits to the
head and torso being especially valuable. The fighter with
the most points after the scheduled number of rounds is
declared the winner. Victory may also be achieved if the
opponent is knocked down and unable to get up before the
referee counts to ten (a Knockout, or KO) or if the opponent
is deemed too injured to continue.
Krav
Maga - (Core Program)
Krav Maga is an Israeli Fighting & defense tactics system.
The system is comprised of simple, easy to learn techniques
based on natural body movements & logical defense principals.
Consequently, practitioners can attain a high level of proficiency
in a relatively short period of instruction. The tactics
even work in harsh, uncontrolled violent environments. Frequently
asked questions available here.
Filipino
Martial Arts
The Filipino martial arts can be described in three distinct
territorial styles- Arnis, Escrima & Kali- that are
found in the northern, central & southern Philippines,
respectively. Based in weapon skills and empty hand skills(such
as kicking, punching, trapping, and grappling). The FMA
covers all the fighting ranges, defending against armed
and unarmed attacks with whatever is available. It teaches
the interrelationship between empty hand skills and weapons
that develops many different types of skills for combat.
Muay
Thai (Amateur and Professional)
Muay Thai is
the Thai name for an indigenous form of martial art practiced
in several Southeast Asian countries. Muay Thai is referred
to as "The Science of Eight Limbs", as the hands,
feet, elbows, and knees are all used extensively in this
art. A master practitioner of Muay Thai thus has the ability
to execute strikes using eight points of contact, as opposed
to the four points (fists, feet) in many other forms of
martial arts. This effectively gives the practitioner the
ability to debilitate opponents with any combination of
the eight limbs.
Brazilian
Jiu-Jitsu
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art and combat sport
that emphasizes ground grappling, with free sparring being
an important training method. The aim is generally to use
a variety of grappling holds to advance in positioning,
and to finally obtain a submission hold. Referred to as
"Position before Submission". Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
is usually practiced in a gi very similar or identical to
a judogi, but non-gi training is also part of the training
regimen in many BJJ schools, and is sometimes referred to
as 'submission wrestling'. It is well known for its effectiveness
in mixed martial arts/no holds barred fighting. It was made
famous by Royce Gracie in the 1993 Ultimate Fighting Championship.
It also has realistic self-defense application.
Mixed
Martial Arts
Mixed martial arts (MMA) is a combat sport in which two
competitors attempt to achieve dominance over one another
by utilizing a wide variety of permitted martial arts techniques,
including striking and grappling. The concept of allowing
such flexibility in styles was partly to assess and determine
which style of martial arts is the most effective in combat
situation. Though often referred to as "No Holds Barred"
fighting, tournaments are regulated with minimal rules with
goal of protecting the fighters.
